Connect FL Studio
Choose an Artist instance by mixer insert and effect slot.
Keep Key Lab’s launcher running while using this connection. The included Mac helper creates a MIDI input and output named PICH Key Lab. These carry settings locally; they do not play notes.
One-time connection
- Put this folder’s device_PichKeyLab.py in your FL Studio user data folder under Settings → Hardware → PICH Key Lab. This has already been installed on the development Mac. To locate another Mac’s user data folder, check FL Studio’s File settings.
- Save your project, quit FL Studio completely, and reopen it so the new controller appears.
- Open MIDI settings with F10. In the Input list, select PICH Key Lab.
- Set Controller type to PICH Key Lab (user) and turn Enable on.
- Give that input an unused port number, such as 10.
- In the Output list, select PICH Key Lab and give it the same port number. Leave MIDI master sync off for this output.
If the virtual device is missing, keep Key Lab running and click Refresh device list. If the controller name is missing, check the script folder and restart FL Studio. “Update MIDI scripts” downloads vendor scripts; it does not install this custom controller.
Send to one instance
- Load Auto-Tune Artist on an FL Studio mixer effect slot.
- In Key Lab, use Find FL Studio instances. A single result is selected automatically. With multiple results, choose the insert and slot you want.
- Analyze a beat, review the key and scale, then click Send to selected instance. Nothing is sent just by selecting an instance.
- Check the confirmation. Undo FL Studio transfer restores that instance’s previous key and scale if they have not changed since sending.
Use Find again after moving, replacing, or renaming effects or loading a project. Selections expire after five minutes. The destination represents a mixer slot, not a permanent identity for a plug-in: replacing Artist with an identical instance in the same slot may be indistinguishable. Enable this controller in only one running FL Studio session.
This direct route changes only Key and Scale on the selected Artist. It does not require “Enable Auto-Key” in Artist and does not broadcast to Console. Retune Speed and Detune stay as you set them.
Current scope
This is an experimental Mac adapter for Auto-Tune Artist. Other Auto-Tune editions and DAWs need separate validation or adapters. Transfer requires identifiable Key and Scale parameters. The tested Artist layout is checked using normalized parameter values because FL Studio supplies decimal strings in place of musical names; the corresponding visible key and scale were checked during development. Other layouts must supply supported text readback, otherwise transfer is refused. The optional broadcast panel has different behavior: it sends to every enabled Auto-Key receiver and cannot select a destination.
The bundled helper is built for Apple silicon. Its complete source is included as midi_link.c; building for another Mac architecture requires Apple’s command-line developer tools. This folder is a development prototype, not an installer.
